THE BIG HUT
“I have always had this idea that one day I would get to paint something like churches, which are always abuzz with shapes and colours, inside and out. There it is, the basic idea for the construction of this «hut», painted on the inside and the out¬side, large enough for one to be able to walk through it. But what to put on the walls? On the inside, four pillars to illus¬trate these four themes: reading, writing, sitting and walking. Four pillars to hold a refuge. A roadhouse from where one could start on a voyage… what a funny idea?!” explains Brigitte

Ecce Homo!
Church St Gervais - St Protais
"These 10 paintings, which make up a unitary artwork, are 2.30 m high and 1 m large each. Much like the pieces of a puzzle, they should be read one after the other in a succession that would cover a wall 10 m long. The theme that I chose is the Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella, on which I went myself and which has always been a source of inspiration to me, much like my wanderings on mountain tops. Everything passes, everything changes and every day is a step on a road. By moving on along that road we ascend, we let go of both conflict and torpor. Moving on, being present, not turning around. Being able to open one’s eyes, to change one’s outlook and to become free, through the road itself and through inner contemplation, pushing on every single day, again and again: this is the idea that I have developed symbolically all through the ten can-vases: a mere stone can find its own spark in the depth of its matter. It seems absurd; could a rock be an imprisoned star, after all? I cherish this idea. In some countries, mountains are sacred goddesses and it is with stones that cathedrals are built."
