AUSTRALIA
Welcome to the Grand BAZ’ART 2016!
Liz Parkinson was born in a small town close to Sydney, Australia. She lived there until she was 11 years old, and then moved to the United Kingdom. In 1974, Liz embarked on a true outsider’s journey: she went back to Australia by land, a voyage of 18 months that took her across Europe, Afghanistan etc…
In 1977, Herbert Eckert sent some photos of Liz’s works to Jean Dubuffet. The Museum of the Collection of Art Brut in Lausanne ordered three drawings that are still classified in the Neuve Invention section. It was a turning point in the artist’s life.
This form of consecration encouraged Liz to persevere, despite the lack of enthusiasm shown by her parents. The artist then started to draw every day without asking why or how, without any particular inspiration or influence.
